Name That Tune is a drinking game that really tests musical knowledge to the max.
Sip Score: *** (Medium-Sipping game)
Game Description: Name that Tune was a popular game show in the 1970s. The concept is pretty simple and when applied to a drinking situation, makes for a super-fun game. Listen to a few seconds of some songs and try to correctly guess who is singing and what it is called. If you get it wrong, there are, of course, drinking penalties!
Number of Players: Minimum of three, maximum of ten
You Will Need: An mp3 player with a diverse selection of music, a steady stream of beer and a group of players.
How to Play: This game works best in a party, bar or a house where you are listening to a random selection of songs. If you are playing at a friend’s place, or in your own house, could even make a new playlist on your iTunes and shuffle through to make the game even more challenging.
Rules of the Game:
FIX EVERY PLAYER A DRINK: A full glass of beer should be in every player’s hand for the start of each round.
SELECT A NEW DJ EACH ROUND: There must be a new DJ each round to make the game fair and let every player take a turn at selecting the music.
15 SECOND ONLY: Each piece of music can be played for a MAXIMUM time of 15 seconds. No longer than this, unless you are playing with the alternative rules (below).
NAME THAT TUNE: A guess is completely correct if both aspects are answers right. These are for there to be a guess with: 1) Correct song title, AND 2) correct artist name.
CORRECT ARTIST ONLY: Any player guessing correctly the artist name only (i.e. this means that they incorrectly guessed the song title) means that EVERYONE DRINKS a finger measure of beer. EVERYONE! Including the DJ! Refill glasses to the top afterwards.
CORRECT SONG TITLE ONLY: Any player guessing correctly the song title only (i.e. this means that they incorrectly guessed the artist name) means that EVERYONE DRINKS a finger measure of beer. This still means EVERYONE, so the DJ better get ready to drink as well! Refill glasses to the top afterwards.
CORRECT ARTIST AND CORRECT SONG TITLE: Any player getting both aspects RIGHT means that EVERYONE DRINKS. This time, the penalty is THREE FINGERS OF BEER. And yep, the DJ is also included! Refill glasses to the top afterwards.
INCORRECT ARTIST AND INCORRECT SONG TITLE: Any player getting both aspects WRONG has to TAKE A WHOLE DRINK. Down in one! Chug! Chug! Chug! Failure to complete this penalty correctly results in more beer as a penalty. There is no escape from this one.
MOVE THE GAME CLOCKWISE: So that everyone gets a chance to “name that tune.”
ALTERNATIVE RULE: It is possible to amend the rules slightly to allow extra time of music to be played. Each 5 additional seconds means an extra FINGER MEASURE of beer has to be consumed by the player requesting more time. This penalty applies even if the player eventually guesses all or part of the information correctly.
You Lose: If you fail to correctly Name That Tune at all.
