Game Description: Give or Take is a two-round card drinking game in which the cards lead the play. Each card has a certain rule and or drinking penalty attached to it. The direction of play changes from the first round to the second, either from “Give” to “Take” or vice versa. Learn the rules and play on!
Number of Players: Minimum of four.
You Will Need: A pack of cards, alcohol and some friends to play with.
How to Play: Sit all the players down in a circle, or facing each other. Assign a dealer whose job it is to shuffle the cards and cut them at the beginning. For the remainder of the game, the players can take it in turns to be dealer, with another player undertaking the role each time the last card in the pack is turned over. Dealer gives each player three cards, dealt face-up. The dealer then asks the player on his right to “give or take.” Follow the rules for matches, below, and continue with the next card through rounds one and two…
Rules of the Game:
ROUND 1
FIRST CARD TURNED: If a player says “give one,” the dealer has to turn up the first card on the remaining deck of cards. If any player has one matching card, he has to TELL another player of his choice to DRINK to the same value of sips as indicated on the card.
MORE THAN ONE: If a player has more than one matching card, they can opt to either GIVE them all to one other player or SPLIT the number of drinks required between two players. DRINK UP!
SECOND CARD TURNED: Any player with a matching card must say “give two” and DRINK two sips HIMSELF.
THIRD CARD TURNED: Any player with matching card has to say “give three” and DRINK three sips. It continues this way with numbers ascending until all the cards have been turned. Then, start again and switch dealers!
ROUND 2
CHANGE GIVE TO TAKE/GIVE TO TAKE: The new dealer does the same as the first, except now the opposite command from the first round is said. If round one was “give,” round two is “take” and vice versa.
TAKE DRINKS: The drinks now have to be TAKEN (i.e. consumed) instead of nominated and given to other players for them to drink instead. Follow the above rules but simply apply TAKE instead of give.
You Lose: If you are given the most or take the most drinks at the end of round two or however many rounds you have decided will constitute the full game. Receiving or taking the highest number of drinks make you the drunkest player. You are officially the LOSER of the game! Unless, of course, you are a superhero or have a phenomenal ability to hold your drinks without seeming drunk, in which case the number of gives or takes will indicate that you are still the loser.
