Drink While You Think is a classic drinking game that incorporates players’ knowledge of celebrity names, or lack thereof…
Sip Score: **** (Medium-High Sipping game)
Game Description: Any drinking game that tests the mental capabilities of drunken players guarantees that hilarity will ensue. This is game that shows how much or how little your friends know about famous actors, musicians and celebrities. The idea is to “Drink While You Think” of the celebrity names.
Number of Players: Minimum of three.
You Will Need: Friends, beer and a reasonably good memory when it comes to celebrities.
How to Play: Sit in a circle, each player with a drink and others in surplus in the center of the circle. Pick someone to start by saying the name of a famous celebrity quasi-famous person that at least two players should theoretically know (you’re cousin Pete who won a cannoli eating competition in 1998 doesn’t count). The player who begins will say the “to my left” or “to my right” and then the name of the celebrity in mind. Play moves on to the next person, either on the left or right of the first player, following the rules of the game with each move…
Rules of the Game:
WHEN THE FIRST AND SUBSEQUENT PLAYER MENTIONS A NAME: The second and subsequent players thereafter have to mention a name that begins with the FIRST letter of the LAST NAME the PREVIOUS name.
PLAYER TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT OF THE FIRST PLAYER: Has to come up with the name of another celebrity using the FIRST letter of the PREVIOUS celebrity’s SURNAME; this should also be the FIRST letter of the NEW celebrity’s FIRST NAME. For example, if the first player mentions Angelina Jolie, the second player will have to think of a celebrity whose first name begins with “J,” such as Jennifer Love Hewitt. The third player needs to think of a celebrity whose name begins with the “H,” such as Harrison Ford, and so on.
DRINK WHILE YOU THINK: On each player’s turn, he needs to take a drink while he thinks of a celebrity name. From the moment play passes to them to the point where they say the name, they need to TAKE A LONG DRINK.
NAMES WITH THE FIRST AND LAST LETTER THE SAME: Reverses play into the opposite direction, so the player who just had a turn has another turn right away.
THE MADONNA RULE: When names of celebrities with just one name are said (like, for example, “Madonna”), the next player is skipped. The skipped player has to TAKE A DRINK!
REPEAT NAMES: Names that have already been said are allowed, but if players don’t notice there is no penalty. If they ARE noticed, the repeating player has to TAKE A DRINK.
You Lose: The ones that end up the most tipsy by the end of the game will ostensibly know the least. This either deserves ridicule or admiration depending on which celebrity names come up…
