Drinking Games A-Z: Beeropoly

The Beeropoly drinking gameThe Beeropoly drinking game is Monopoly with all the fun of cut-throat tactics, reckless spending and terrible investments with alcohol thrown into the equation. What’s not to love?

Sip Score: *** (Medium-Sipping game)

Game Description:  Boozy Monopoly! Just play the game as you normally would, with additional twists in the form of drinking penalties whenever certain actions occur.

Number of Players:  Minimum of two

You Will Need A Monopoly board, at least one other friend to play with, plus the all-important a steady supply of beer.

How to Play: Follow the standard rules of Monopoly. If you’ve lost the original rules that came with the game, you can find replacement rules on the internet, so take a look online. Sit with your other player(s) and agree on the additional rules you will incorporate. Best to do this at the start while everyone is still able to remember!

Rules of the Game: There are plenty of ways you can booze-up this game. Equally, you can modify the rules to make it a lower-sipping game. Either way, it’s best to play Beeropoly with rules that are commensurate to the comfort and ability of the players.

Here are a couple of suggestions to get you started:

SUBSTITUTE THE PAPER MONEY FOR ALCOHOL: Remove all the Monopoly money and agree to pay with drinking penalties. So, for example, as you play and land on a square requesting that you pay money to another player or to the bank, TAKE A DRINK INSTEAD! And when the BANK owes money to other players, the OTHER PLAYERS have to drink instead of receiving money.

KEEP THE PAPER MONEY IN THE GAME: You can assign drinking penalties to various squares on the board, depending on the version of the game you are playing. For example, landing on Wall Street might incur a drinking penance of half a beer. You get the idea. Have fun with it!

Why not try thinking up some other fun rules? Like, every time a player buys a piece of property on a particularly colored square, all the players have to take a drink. Or every time a player passes go, instead of collecting $100, all of the players take a drink?

You Lose: If you end up “Beeropoly poor” which means beer-rich and drunk. So not such a bad result after all!

Safety Disclaimer: Beeropoly is a fantastic drinking game. It’s fun for everyone to play who is of legal drinking age. As with regular Monopoly, it is a game that can take hours to play, so it is wise to commence playing with some precautions and considerations in mind. First, do not start off with huge drinking penalties. Make them small and manageable as a reflection of the length of this game: think marathon instead of sprint. You have to try to go the distance in this game, so pace yourself. Have some water or soft drinks on standby, and maybe also some light snacks as it is not unusual for Beeropoly to last for several hours. If at any point, any player want to slow down or feels sick, give them some water and time to take a break. Play safe and have fun but be responsible at the same time!
